  I've used fluxbox for years. With that window manager, I have much
  more room than that to play with ... my wife uses gnome, and yes,
  it is an issue. 

  Also, fluxbox provides macros for selective resizing and tiling.

  Fluxbox was originally a bitch to set up, but the amount of
  control beats an OS or a WM that tries to do everything for you
  and leaves you with little disgression. 

  Must be a lesson there somewhere....
