After some of the crazy things I have seen going on in government
lately (ours and around the world) I have finally decided to get
serious about privacy in browsing. As far as obscuring location, I
knew Tor was the way to go, but I wasn't sure how I want to implement
it and integrate it with Firefox, and most of the online material is
out of date.

However, I was able to get it figured out, for the most part. I got
Tor installed and running on my system, and then pointed Firefox to
use localhost as a SOCKSv5 proxy. And I use FoxyProxy to tweak some of
the settings related to that.

I was discouraged that, for some reason that is still unclear to me, I
have not been able to get google search to work correctly from Firefox
while browsing with Tor. It refuses to return search results. So I
found another search engine called Ixquick that seems to work just
fine regardless.

I could go on about all the other ways I locked down my browsing
privacy (HTTPS enforcement, cookie blocking, et cetera) and the
related struggles, but doubtlessly I'm boring everyone already.
