[aklug] Any experience at ripping newer DVDs?

I have been ripping a few of my (legally owned) DVDs to be able to watch
them on my Android device.
I did a couple them with DVD::RIP and it worked pretty well. I tried doing
the new StarTrek movie that came out in 2009, and hit a wall.

It seems that in 2009, they came out with a modified variant of their
security and DVD::RIP is having issues with it. I don't seem to be alone in
this. I've found where several people have had issues with this movie and
others that have come out since 2009.

I have tried using VLC as it plays the movie without issues and is supposed
to be able to rip. It just records the stream as it's playing, but when I
try this, it records at <10 frames/sec. Not watchable.

There is something for setting the framerate but when I use it, the timer
starts counting at 40(somethiing) hours and going up.

I am obviously doing something wrong ...
