Actually, the auto translation is probably closer to the truth. One of the things some blog owners have been doing is taking articles found on other sites, and running them through an auto spinner to repost it without running into copyright issues. The auto spinner uses some sort of thesaurus, and rewrites the articles. The result is a made for Adsense site with articles that are not intended for human consumption. Google picks it up and sends visitors for the keywords, who don't like what they read and hopefully click on an ad to get away from the site, earning the blog owner money.
