AWS offers a free minimal instance for one year. The abstraction between
the OS and the storage on AWS is a hard one to deal with, smart in it's
own way, but still difficult to come to gripes with. I like rackspace
personally but you will have to pay, the sum for a tiny instance is
pretty paltry though $.0015 per hour so you probably won't come out very
poor from the whole experience. Rackspace provides a much more "normal"
experience compared to AWS.
