[aklug] Google Sketchup and Ubuntu Linux

Recently tried Google Sketchup with Ubuntu 10.04 and wine1.2 (the one
in the repository) and it seems to work fine with the following
modifications:

  - Use regedit to change the HW_OK value to 1
  - When printing ensure that you have the 'Use high accuracy HLR' on
the print dialog box.

There may be other issues with video drivers and OpenGL. Use glxgears
to verify that your OpenGL configuration is reasonable.

Keep in mind that Google Sketchup is not open source, but it is free to use.

There are also free plugins that add functionality, like exporting to DXF.

Happily for me, these plugins are in Ruby! :)

You may have to google around to find the actual place in the registry
to change the HW_OK value.

Have fun!

Mike B.
