I did notice, although I can't find the link at the moment, that the
users of google..com/gov got an apology from google for having tuned it
off with no notification.

I kind of get the impression google has been kind of taken aback by the
strong response from some quarters. It appears as though while not that
many people have been using the targeted searches, those that were very
much relied on them... Like me.
