I tend to agree with you, but that doesn't change the fact that I want
my www.google.com/linux back.

I haven't found anything specifically from google on the subject, but it
seems to have something to do with having google automatically come up
in your language and some country (geographic area) specific stuff. I do
know that google just made a bunch of changes to the way their "google
apps" works. Maybe this is a related change.
