You can upgrade from the LiveCD using apt-cdrom.

Sidenote: the LiveCD can be converted to a LiveUSB and this still
works. In fact, the LiveCD could be a virtual partition somewhere else
because apt doesn't really care WHERE the data is as long as it can
access it. You're basically using the LiveCD as your own private repo,
editing sources.list to point to this repo and only this repo, and
then letting rip.

Caveat: there is already a nifty kernel update for 10.10 that you
won't get this way.
