I just wanted to give you guys the link to that NXT project I have
mentioned from time to time, which I work on as a student-worker for
ARSC. About a month ago, the project reached full production status, and
we have been showing it off to UAF visitors and anybody else who is
interested:

http://robots.arsc.edu

The entire robotics remote control system is built on a Gentoo Linux
server (on topic! on topic!). Lighttpd + php provides the web site, with
the control panel itself wrapped up in Java applets. The video streaming
is handled by a combination of video-for-Linux (v4l), VLC transcoding,
and Wowza Flash streaming. The actual back-end robot management is
handled by Python programs utilizing the nxt-python library for wireless
communication and the D-bus for IPC.

More information about the project is available at the web site through
the F.A.Q. page or the Contact page. Any person visiting the web site
can view the robot control panels and video feeds without getting an
account, though the system won't let you actually send commands to a
robot until you have signed up and have been scheduled-in for access.
