Tim,

I find a NAS to be the most straightforward solution. Centralize the
media storage and stream to all devices from a single location. I run
FreeNAS at home for this purpose and it identifies itself as a DAAP
server, a DLNA server, as well as hosting the same files as samba
shares. This does, of course, necessitate having a seperate device to
function as the server itself.

You could, instead, simply run a Firefly server on Ubuntu. This would
serve media as a DAAP server that iTunes devices (and software like
Rhythmbox or Amarok) could easily identify.
