I wanted to thank everybody for the advice. After reading through your
e-mails, posting to a few forums, and reading through a dozen or two
reviews, I finally decided to try the Dell Inspiron Mini 10v from the
Dell website. At $300, it was only $20 more than the Mini 9 models on
Ebay. (Comes with Ubuntu preloaded, though I'll probably put Gentoo on
it eventually.)

The Acer Aspire One was second runner up. But the tipping point for the
Mini 10v was that there is no fan noise (because it has no fan) and all
the Aspire One reviews said noticeably loud. I also thought the Asus Eee
PC 1008HA "Seashell" looked pretty cool, but it costs an extra $80 or so
most places.
