Hey gang. My laptop has had a hardware problem for a while, and I think
it finally bit the dust. I need to buy something new quick because I
rely on it all the time at work, and also classes just started. Because
I'm only one economic level above broke, I was planning to invest in a
net book. I'm going to be doing plenty of the googling bit this evening,
but I would appreciate a little personal experience if anyone is willing
to share a story or two.

Things I care about:

1. Budget. I was hoping for something in the range of $300 to $400 at most.
2. Linux-compatibility. Wireless compatibility is obviously the biggest
concern. I'll probably be putting Gentoo on it.
3. Low-noise. Every laptop that I've ever owned starts sounding like a
helicopter the moment the processor starts to heat up and the fans go
off. I'd like to be able to sit in a room with a computer for a change
and not draw attention to myself.

I thought about adding "4. Nice keyboard layout." But if it has two USB
ports I'll probably carry around a portable keyboard/mouse combo, so
that should be a moot issue.
