That was exactly my conclusion after opening up the case this weekend. Everything is stone cold inside the HTPC enclosure. The SSD is cold to the touch as well as the 1TB WD Green drive I use for storage in it. The CPU heatsink isn't noticeably warm, nor is the power supply, but the northbridge/Nvidia 9400 graphics passive heatsink is like the surface of the sun. I'm going to look into getting some active cooling on it which should help the lockups, but that doesn't explain why ubuntu won't install to my SSD.
