I'm kind of embarrassed to have to ask this, but here it goes...
I've used MySQL before, but it has been over a year since I set up my
own from scratch. So I installed it on my Debian Lenny i386 machine with
'sudo apt-get install mysql-server". However, when I enter the mysql
shell with the 'mysql' command (as root) I just get
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using
password: NO)
I tried 'mysql -u root' and 'mysql -u root -p', but the results are the
same. It asks for my password with the -p switch, but I locked out my
root password ages ago and am only using sudo.
I tried using 'mysqladmin' command, as well as mysql_secure_installation
and mysql_setpermission, to try to get a password set or create a
database, but I am eventually asked for a password and am blocked.
Could some jog my memory about what I'm forgetting to do here?
