[aklug] Open-source search sites?

Hi. I was wondering, have you guys heard of anyone trying to do what
google search and yahoo search does, but with open-source software and
patent free algorithms? (From what I understand, google uses open-source
architecture but their search algorithms are patented.)

I found lots of search engine source code, but nothing applied on a large
scale.

Wikia search is the closest thing I found to what I want
(http://search.wikia.com/index.html), but the only problem with them is
that they give users /way/ to much control over search results. For
example, I single-handedly deleted the 25 top link results for the search
"msn" this afternoon. (hee hee hee)
