[aklug] Re: Trying to recover data from a bad SD card

I tried dd_rescue. No luck. Looks like /dev/sdb isn't really there. I think the system gets IO errors and gets rid of /dev/sdb or something like that.

Is there a way to force /dev/sdb to stay connected to the device so I can use dd_rescue?

Smart!

If it reports different bad sectors each time you DD you may be able
to use tools like dd_rescue (much cooler than DD) to get the data off
into multiple SD capacity sized images.. then merge them together
later.

Also.. any single media will eventually die.. backups of backups of
backups is the only sure answer.

I still want to get an iTouch or something similar just so I can rsync
my pda when it's powered on.. talk about the ultimate sneakernet too!
