Follow up: I used my disk on an install on a different computer and found
cups did not work. I had to delete the files in /etc/cups/ssl/.

 In the "remastersys.conf file there is an 'excludes' stanza. I need to
fine tune this for creating a truly generic iso. /var, /dev, /home is
excluded by default for the 'dist' option, and ?
