Back in the mid 80's usenet WAS the internet. Usenet, Empire and
Galtrader took up all of my VAX time at UAF.

Nowadays it isn't very relevant anymore.

Most useful usenet groups are just echoes of mailing lists or web
forums. Many of the usenet only groups are simply pr0n binary groups.
As a result some ISPs (ACS for example) no longer provide usenet feeds
to their customers.

I would not put too much of an effort into it unless you have a resource
on usenet that you need and can't find anywhere else --
alt.startrek.weslie.crusher.die.die.die comes to mind.
