Probably an important point to consider is the whole point of an
InstallFest and who your audience will be. I wouldn't worry too much
about absolute beginners.

Very few people ever install Windows or OSX.

They buy a computer, or get one at work. You turn it on, answer some
questions, and it works.

"Computer" often refers to the monitor, with an attached "CPU" or "hard
drive" somewhere under the desk.

Just getting the basic concept of what an operating system is would be
most of your work. People have told me that their machine runs
Microsoft Office.

They don't upgrade their existing machines, they buy another.

Imagine the thought process: "I have a computer, and I don't want to buy
a Mac. Now you want me to buy a Linux? What do I do with my old
computer?"

But I do not think many of those people will ever show up to an
installfest. I think you'll end up with a pretty much self selecting
geeky crowd, maybe gamers who are already overclocking, etc. and have
tried Linux but couldn't get over the initial learning curve, or didn't
want to delete all of the games they have installed to reformat the
drive. Those people will take advantage of the install help to ensure
they don't lose precious high score data.

But as I'm down here in Juneau I haven't seen your advertising.
Hopefully I'm wrong and you get throngs of newbies that are just tired
of virus popups!

Just my 2 cents!

James
