Mike,

I used to have similiar problems with HP printers= all the time on a network
I worked on in idaho/washington. I have fou= nd through trial and error
thatif you are printing to a p= ost script printer (and don't care about
thefancy printing options) that t= he best HP driver to use is an HP LJ4
printer driver. for some reason that = driver ALWAYS works on any HP printer
that is PS compatible. I have ev= en used that driver for Epson, Brother and
Xerox post script printers. I am= sure it comes down to the lowest common
denominator in PS compatiblity. Bu= t it works.

Most of us know by now that you can configure a wi= ndows port to point to:

http://yourserver:631/printers/yourprint= er

And that printing to the cups server will work fairly well.
There is an issue with mime.types, but it is easily fixed.
However, I was using a Vmware Win2K client that I could not get to =3D= 20
print to this server.

All my other machines, MAC's, PC's= , other Linux boxen could print =3D20
fine...just not this one VM.

Turns out, I didn't have the right printer driver. So it woul= d =3D20
pretend to print, but nothing would come out.

In th= is case, I figured this out by using one of the Apple Color =3D20
Lase= rwriter drivers.

"But Mike", you say, "Why would you use the App= le driver when you have
=3D20
a HP4215xi?".

At first I was = having trouble locating the HP driver (I have it now),
=3D20
so this w= as my alternate choice.

It prints the test page just fine, but l= ikely I'd run into some =3D20
printing issues down the road from the V= M. But the main thing is that
=3D20
it proved I could print from= the VM.

There were some other access issues that needed buttoni= ng down as well.

I'm happy to share more specific issues if folk= s are interested...
