This is because, when we choose 'reply-all' it replies to both the list
and the sender. If you look closely, you should see that the reply is to
you and it's the list that's cc'd. Not the other way around.

If we only choose reply, it replies to the sender only and effectively
takes the discussion 'off-list'. Sometimes I remember to change this on
the reply, I usually don't.

It has to do with the way the list works, not our individual mail clients.

Someone explained the logic of this to me at one time, I don't remember
what it was off-hand. If I remember correctly, I didn't exactly follow
it either. That probably why I can't remember. Clear as mud? :-)
