I've had a similar experience with Windows , Vmware, and VirtualBox. I
ended up installing windows in VirtualBox instead of moving it over from
VMWare - Windows on VirtualBox after the migration wouldn't boot on
account of changed devices, etc.

however, VirtualBox runs really nice now, and I have all the windows
apps I need ( MS Communicator) right on my desktop.
