Hi Todd,

One thing I think all of us agree on is LFS(LinuxFromScratch)
www.linuxfromscratch.org.

This will walk you through building your very own linux system from the
ground up. You have to compile all the pices and parts and literally
build your Linux box from scratch. It will teach you what goes into and
how things fit together in Linux. Not to mention it's just cool to build
your very own Linux box, eh Art?

Now I am not telling you to go do that and come back here then ask, not
at all. But if you are really interested this would be an excellent
first step to understanding the inner workings of Linux. What you learn
from doing LFS you can apply to 99.99% of all Linux machines and a lot
of it translates to Unix as well.
