Joshua,

Something similar seems to have come up in the recent past. -
I suspect that there are chipset bugs or something else
non-OS related going awry with large USB transfers.

I my experience, my drive (USB) got corrupted under linux
which then tested good on direct IDE connection. As an experiment,
I started using it on a windoze box, doing the same large backup
scheme and it ulimately became corrupted similarly. ( This suggests
it may not be os/driver related? )

I have since abandoned USB as a backup interface, installed the
drive in a box as a main (IDE) drive & it has been performing
flawlessly since.

I think the best test is to connect it via PATA/SATA & run
your tests. Let us know!
