Mathematica and Linux?

Anyone on list regularly use Mathematica 6 (on Linux, of course)? I
recently upgraded to their latest and there's an issue that their tech
support and I cannot seem to resolve.
The issue: Links, navigation buttons, and search fields are
non-interactive/operable in both notebooks and the documentation center.
The platform: Slackware 11 w/kernel 2.6.18 provided in /testing.

What's been done: Per Wolfram's support, I've reset the front end and
reinstalled Mathematica. I think the issue was escalated but I haven't
heard back yet.
