Subject: Debian mischief

I know most of you are Ubuntu freaks, I use it as well for all my
workstations, however I stick to Debian for servers. So I noticed
some odd new .iso files in the Debian cd-images repository.

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/i386/iso-cd/ ...

   debian-testing-i386-kde-CD-1.iso 12-Mar-2007 01:20 647M
   debian-testing-i386-xfce-CD-1.iso 12-Mar-2007 01:22 648M

Just F.Y.I. for Debian purists, not really for us hybrid Debian users
playing with Ubuntu.

Those CD images are for people who want/need an offline install, but
don't want to install the default Gnome-lib stuff you get with the
"desktop environment" task. They're sort of equivalent to Kubuntu and
Xubuntu. Once Etch goes stable they'll probably move out of the weekly
build section.

If you're doing a network install, just put "install =
tasks=3Dkde-desktop"
or "install tasks=3Dxfce-desktop" as an argument when the installer =
splash
screen comes up. Then you won't download any of the Gnome libraries,
etc. unless you specifically ask for a package that depends on them.

I prefer KDE over Gnome, so I like these arguments. (And Kubuntu too!)
