2007 - A New Beginning

The New Year is always a good time for a new beginning and this year
promises to be as exciting as ever.

Here are some events that are coming up:

- Monthly "talks" -- this could be anything from Open Source topics to
AKLUG business (like directors meetings)

- New member recruitment -- I'd like to see our ranks double in the
next year. Yes, it's a big task, but I think doable.

- Membership dues -- Do I hear a collective groan? I'm not excited
about it either, but it costs money to have a non-profit organization,
and I would hate to see all the hard work that was put into creating
this organization go down the drain because of lack of funding. We
have quite a few members, so I don't imagine this would be to great a
strain on anyone. Besides if the new member recruitment goes well, it
costs less for everyone.

- ITExpo -- Damien showed us that getting exposure is possible. With
new membership and a good presence at the show, it should be a lot of
fun.

- Learning Linux -- This should have probably been listed first, but
if you have gotten this far in the message, then I know your as
committed as I am to bringing Linux to as many people as possible.

I'm interested in what others think about our direction...so chime in!
With regards to this message and others like it...if your interested in
how AKLUG runs, please join the aklug-ops maillist and participate. If
you just want to stay informed, then browse the aklug-ops maillist
every so often.

Lastly, I wanted to say thanks to the folks at Highland Tech for
letting us use their facility. It's a privilege and very much
appreciated.
