I used AVG from Grisoft untill recently. I upgraded to the paid-for version a few months ago.
The limitations on the free version seem pretty minimal.
Only 1 update per day.
Only 1 scan per day.
You don't get priority access to the update server, you do get updates though.
You get a few less bells and whistles and no tech support.
