Your point of view isn't unreasonable, but your mode of delivery is.

Hints, jokes, ribs, etc are difficult to pick up via email. Especially
since each person has different senses of humor. Therefore, do not
hint. Similarly, don't start throwing around insults and calling people
shills when someone doesn't get your 'hint'.

Perhaps a personal email with the note "Hey, please make sure you use
full disclosure when posting about products you happen to sell", or
"Hey, don't you sell that? You should let everybody know that". If
that doesn't work and the person keeps it up, respond to the list, with
the email quoted, with a *kind* reminder that they shouldn't be pitching
products on the list. You don't need brass knuckles and a fist full of
quarters to do so.
