Multimedia software for Ubuntu

I just added multimedia software to my Ubuntu workstation. I used the
following instructions.

I'm new to Ubuntu and I didn't check the sources list that was provided.
I just stuck it in and hit the go button. However, everything seems to
be working. I'm listening to an MP3 stream at the moment. I havn't tried
anything else yet.
