as much as I would like to say "yay a debian zealot!". I would think our
frustrated Ronald freind should just boot a linux-bbc iso or the
superrescue iso and see if it automagically shows up.. or install a
prism/orinoco pcmcia card in it and boot the debian netinst, that would
show it working/not working as well.

as far as the guts.. I don't know much about the spec but with PCMCIA it
can typically be one of a few things.. the most common is if its a dual
height PCMCIA sometimes in an uncoordinated effort to put a pcmcia card
in it may get stuck.. the hammer or jam it till it fits in mentality may
or may not kick in at that point. if so you may have bent pins. get a
camera with a flash and manual/macro focus and check it out.
