I was at a rehearsal last night when the power went out.

No problem for me, right? I've got a UPS at home!

So I get home about 2 minutes after the power comes back up,
and my computers are both up and running. Okay, looks fine.
But the clock is blinking in the kitchen, so I know the power
was out.

Go check the servers..

Yup, they rebooted.

...Hmm.. they didn't shut down cleanly.

A quick check shows that after I rebuilt my firewall, I didn't
re-install the UPS monitoring software. D'oh!

20 minutes later, I had UPSd running against my tripplite,
and a successful test pull of the plug shut everything down in
the right order.

Sigh. Well, it does teach us to double-check everything!
