problem with hwclock on FC4

I recently installed Fedora Core 4 on two new Dell Servers. When I try to
access the hardware clock with hwclock, I get no response but the following
error message:

select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out

Has anyone else encountered this? I don't think it's a hardware problem,
but am not sure. Going into bios setup on bootup, everything appears ok.
The clock is correctly set.
