linux dialup modems

Thanks to all the input from the last KTNA related post about
ftp, cron, printing etc. The plan is to have something working by next week.

To continue with more ongoing projects, we need a couple or
three linux compatible modems, internal or external. I do not want to use one of the "wrapper" programs for winmodems more on principle than anything else. I have personally used USR Externals for years but their 100$ price tag is too steep for the station so I was wondering if any used ones of any make that are compatible out-of-the-box are out there? We could pay a little but not much. I could pick up Thursday in Anchorage....I also looked for PCI versions in town but all the brands I remembered from a couple years ago were not easily found. I have glanced at the Linux-Compatible hardware lists to refresh my memory but Anchorage stores I looked at didn't seem to carry them. Did not check the used store on 36th however.

Thanks for any help or direction
