In the case of gimp-print, I would do an uninstall first. Gimp-print can be
(not always but occasionally) a REAL pain in the butt to get
installed/configured correctly, and eliminating the possibility of conflicting
/old files is worth the extra work in this case, IMHO. ESPECIALLY if it is a
beta version. (I myself have learned to avoid these for gimp-print).

Good luck and I hope it goes smoothly. It often does. How much was the
printer, anyway?
