i haven't kept up on motherboard costs as much since i got into small form
factor cases. seeing as how their price and performance is coming in line
with that of larger, noisier systems you might want to keep them in mind if
you're budget conscious. shuttle just released a new amd64 system, the
SN95G5, which incorporates pretty much everything you'd need; socket 939,
nforce3 250 ultra, up to 2gb dual channel ddr400, serial ata, gigabit ethernet,
etc. pricewatch lists it at right around $320 so coupled with a $290 athlon64
3500 (393 pin), you'd be looking at a very decent machine for $610 leaving a
good deal of cash left over for other things like sata drives before getting
close to $1000.

i'm setting up a new machine myself, but i'm still debating on if it's worth
holding out for an nforce4 version. check it out...
