cd burning and kernel 2.6.7

According to the 2.6.7 documentation, one no longer needs scsi emulation to
write to a cd-rw. However, when I removed the hdd=ide-scsi bootparam, k3b no
longer recognized my cd-rw. Is there now a specific device for cd-rw? Thanks,
