Linux on PowerPC

I've been reading up on Linux and the PowerPC platform. I'm not an
Apple user but I'm seriously considering a G5 within the next couple
months. So I was hoping someone on the list has experience with running
Linux on PowerPC....better yet would be a dual boot.
I noticed the Yellowdog is selling dual boot G5 (YDLinux & OSX). Then I
was really happy to see that Debian, Mandrake, and more support this
platform.

Can anyone give me user experience? I don't want to buy a G5 if I can't
have a full multimedia desktop under Linux. I know I'll have everything
under OSX but I live in Linux land!!
