$19 PCMCIA 802.11b cards

OfficeMax on Dimond has a bunch of PCMCIA 802.11b wireless network cards
on clearance for $19. Is 802.11b compatible with 802.11g access
points? I know hardly anything about wireless cards, but it's my
understanding the 'b' cards are just slower and support less encryption
then the 'g' cards, and they are cross-compatible (similar to using 10
and a 10/100 wired cards). Am I correct in my assumtions?

My second question is this: the cards are the Microsoft branded cards -
do they use the standard (Linux) drivers, or do they use some stupid
Windows-only drivers? Anyone have experience with using the Microsoft
network cards in Linux?

I don't have a wireless network at home, nor do I plan to, but on my
last trip to the lower 48, there were quite a few wireless internet
access points floating around in the airports and such.

Anyway, If this is a good deal and someone decides to go buy them all,
at least leave one there for me :)

Thanks,
Justin
