    The link to the utility was exactly what I was looking for. "mii-tool" is indeed a part of the SUSE 9.0 Distro. I was able to use the tool however the NIC does not respond (yet) to the -F 100baseTx-FD I will need to eliminate a couple other possibilities regarding the MB slot used for the NIC (ABIT MB has some PCI slot peculiarities. If nothing else I will swap the 3Com for an Intel and that should narrow the issue. In any case I wanted to thank you for pointing out another utility that makes Linux such a great OS!
