OK....some of you are wondering...others don't care...I'm just sharing
because it relates to Linux.

Here is the final configuration (got it for about $1400)

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512mb main memory
Aopen GeForce 2 mx400 AGP/64mb
60G Desktar HD
MAG LT776s with speakers
Samsung CD RW
Memory DVD -+RW
Optical mouse (I really like this!)

The case is black with fancy blue lights and multi-colored leds for the
fans on the outside of the box

We bought a $20 black CompUSA keyboard with a bunch of extra buttons.

I installed RH9 onto it and everything worked except for the network
adapter. It is a broadcom and I had to compile the driver for my
machine. There was a source rpm to use, so it wasn't too difficult.

One of the great things was that the wheel on the optical wheel mouse
worked right off. I really like that feature. Won't do without it
anymore! (kinda like having power windows...once you have them...it is
really hard to not)

I haven't yet tested the recording ability of the machine and if it
doesn't work, I will be buying a SoundBlaster card.

I am having a little trouble with configuring X as most of you are now
aware, but that is just a problem with my knowledge level of X.

I have been able to install mplayer and ogle on the machine to view
DVD's and play some mpeg movies I have made with my Sony Mavica. I
liked that the most.

With the 17" screen the DVD's are kinda fun to watch.

So although we went a little over on the amount we wanted to spend we
picked up a DVD RW and speakers that are part of the monitor. These
last two items were a change order from the woman who let's me live with
her(to quote Doogan).

I did a default personal install with no changes and had to add a few
rpms to compile the broadcom software...not that big of a deal.

My wife and I both like the machine and it's nice to have a processor
that is past the 1000Mhz mark.

If anyone would like more information, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for listening....Mike
