This site supports dvdrecord. I use 'dvdrceord' with Pioneer A-104(2x)
& A105(4x) burners. It works well on the media I use. Media quality, or
perceived quality makes the difference. When the latest generation of
burners came out (4x) the firmware blocked the usage of some of the
cheap media available from third parties. This is discussed on the
dvdrtools list as is the most commonly used burners. The Sony DRU500 and
the Pioneer A104/105. 'dvdrecord', on the command line, uses the same
syntax as cdrecord. I haven't used the latest versions of cdrtools si I
do't know if it supports recording dvd's.

From the author of cdrecord, this site has cdrecord-ProDVD. It is free
for non-commercial use.

The Pioneer unit is in the top 10 at mwave.com and at $199 is a good
buy.
