Odd XF86/KVM mouse behavior

So, I've got my Win2K "work" PC, my WinXP "games" PC and my Debian
"real" PC hooked through a Belkin KVM. When I switch between PCs there's
a couple seconds before the mouse (Logitech Trackman Marble) is
recognized on the Windows boxes; on the Debian box the mouse *never*
recovers - it starts the "jumping around and randomly clicking" we've
all seen when mis-configuring a mouse. (XF 4.2, KDE3.1 on the system.)
If I switch back to it, then hit Ctrl-Esc and use the keyboard to select
"logoff", I can log back in and the mouse works normally again.

I'm using "ImPS/2" as the protocol, connected to /dev/psaux. I noticed
that debconf set up another entry, with /dev/input/mice as the
connection, so I commented out first one, then the other, which made me
discover that /dev/input/mice is non-functional on this system. So, it's
commented out. Using "PS/2" as the protocol doesn't help, either.

Any ideas? Perhaps using GPM and switching to /dev/gpmdata, although
last time I tried that I had serious issues, and since I don't really
need a console mouse, I'd rather not use it if it's not necessary...

Thanks,
Tom
