Hi Tim,

Hey, hope the move went smooth as that can be a trying time for anyone. Good
to hear you are tweaking things and it's working. Friday nights are the only
AKLUG meetings right now and usually have enough expertise present to help
with most Linux related issues.

Hi Dee:

Thanks for the invitation. I do want to attend a Friday gathering. This
weekend we moved back to Anchorage....so I was busy.

I did get my linux client to join my windows 2k domain right before the end
of the day friday.

It seems my error that I mention below was due to the fact that a user (such
as Tim) already existed on the Linux box (Tim was the first account created
locally on the linux box). Then when I logged in to be authenticated by my
windows domain it was trying to create or write in the home directory that
was already there. The only problem was my windows account did not have
write access to the "Tim"linux home directory.

I logged into the linux box with a different windows account that did not
reside on the linux box......the windows domain authenticated me and created
a new home directory on the linux box. I have read that you can keep linux &
windows passwords in synch - so this leads me to believe that I should be
able to log on locally with the Tim account or login with the windows domain
authenticating (as the Tim account resides in my windows domain w/the same
password as my Linux Tim account).

Is this confusing?

I'm just getting my feet wet with the linux/windows mixed environment.

Thanks,
Tim
