I've been using software raid on my RH 7.3 box at home for a couple of
months - been pretty happy with it so far. From everything I've read
about it under Linux it seems to be fairly highly regarded. I don't know
how easy or difficult other distros make it to setup but under RH it's
pretty easy to do during the install.

hde1 + hdg1 = md0 = /boot
hde2 + hdg2 = md1 = swap
hde3 + hdg3 = md2 = /

Using an abit mobo that has separate ata66 channels. I have 2 - 40 gig
drives on the 2 ata66 channels (1 drive per channel), leaving me 2
regular ata33 channels for cd-rom or whatever.
