I think you'd be better off backing down to something with the 2.2
kernel series. The 2.4 kernel is a memory hog. If you don't have at
least 128 MB of ram, it spends all it's time swapping stuff on and off
the hard drive, and its not like that thing has udma drives to make that
go at a reasonable pace.
