One possibility:
Try 'less quake2'. If it's a script, the first line should point
to a valid interpreter or shell. If, for example, a script points
to /bin/bash, but you have it installed in /usr/bin/bash or
/usr/local/bin/bash, the script won't run until it's adjusted.
