As a followup. I got the usb working without too much difficulty. I
had to make the usb devices o+rwx and set the user name and user id
using 'install-user'. Neither of those issues are really discussed in
any of the how-to's that I came across. Evolution isn't working, and
I don't have time to make it happy. Jpilot seems to work fine for my
needs.
