Hello -
I have noticed a problem with my network when I boot up. I am running RH7.2 with 2.4.17 on an old Compaq.
It appears to boot without error, but the network is unreachable when I try to ping it. Here's what I get in dmesg:
eepro_init_module: Probe is very dangerous in ISA boards!
eepro_init_module: Please add "autodetect=1" to force probe
id: 0xb4 <7> io: 0x230 <6>eth0: Intel EtherExpress Pro/10 ISA at 0x230,<6> 00<6>:aa<6>:00<6>:a7<6>:a7<6>:94<6>, IRQ 10, 10BaseT.
eepro.c: v0.13 11/08/2001 aris@cathedrallabs.org <mailto:aris@cathedrallabs.org>
eth0: set Rx mode to 1 address.
portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out
RPC: sendmsg returned error 101
portmap: RPC call returned error 101
RPC: sendmsg returned error 101
portmap: RPC call returned error 101
eth0: set Rx mode to 1 address.
When I stop SMB and restart network I can ping the newtwork, but I have to restart X (I can't start any X apps).
Should I have to probe for eth0 if I already know the setting?
Here's how I load it in modules.conf:
alias eth0 eepro
options eth0 io=0x230 irq=10
What do I need to change to get it to load correctly on boot? Thanks.
Mike
